My Thoughts on the Lesson of Love

Jesus is my Savior. Let me be upfront about that. I don't want anyone to wonder about who I believe is the only Way to God. Just being transparent....

Now, let me begin talking about what I believe Jesus is teaching us about love. He was uniquely qualified to judge. He is the only human born without sin. He is the only human to live His life without sin. He died to save every human being on the planet. He did this knowing full well that many would reject His gift. That is used as a lesson on love from many pulpits and I agree with that....

But, Jesus offers us many other lessons on love. He was a radical. He talked openly to women. He talked to women who were not part of His culture. He spoke to the woman at the well about her life choices, but He didn't condemn her. He gently taught her about what she should be doing. He didn't point and yell and post on Facebook about how sinful she was. He loved her.

The woman who was caught in adultery (where was the guy ?). He challenged the men who were supposed to stone her and He saved her life. He gently told her that He didn't condemn her and to go and sin no more. He did this with love. He didn't tweet about her infidelity and invite others to come out for a Stoning Party. He quietly loved her.

I sometimes miss the important lessons from Jesus, but I am slowly catching on. As followers of Jesus Christ, we aren't called to criticize or post ugly things about our fellow humans. Jesus didn't teach us to hate. Jesus didn't lead us to join hate groups or to be ugly to anyone.

His message is one of love. The 2 greatest Commands are to love God and to love your neighbor. All of your neighbors. Gay neighbors. Trans neighbors. Queer neighbors. Austisic neighbors. Even neighbors who don't look like you or me. Love them. Be kind to them.

That doesn't mean that we agree with their lifestyles or philosophies. Nope. Jesus did teach the Truth. But He did that in love.

So, my thinking is that I need to be more cognizant of Jesus' love for all. I need to be more like Jesus that way. Please remind me when I screw up.... and I will. But I'm trying.

Those are my thoughts. Thanks for reading !!!!
