Controversy

This week started off with a bombshell as a draft of a Supreme Court decision on Roe v. Wade was published by Politico. There was speculation that this was made available by a Court staffer with an axe to grind and a huge disagreement about the results of the supposed vote within the ranks of the Justices. News outlets went berserk as the war in Ukraine, inflation, and any other newsworthy items went to the back page. Hundreds of protesters on both sides of the issue were seen on TVs across the nation in many cities. It was a banner week for reporters....

And here are my thoughts as always.

I am opposed to abortion for abortions sake. I believe that a person is a person from conception. I believe that abortion is the same as murder with intent. But I believe that there are valid reasons for some abortions to be legal.... the health of the Mother for one. I believe that we as a society need to look at the reasons for aborting a human being and decide what is legal and what is not outside of the courts. This needs to be a legislative action based on logic with input from all.

With that said, we are a society lacking in social networking and aid to those whose lives would be vastly changed with a new human in the house. We need to provide food, shelter, training, childcare, and basic needs to those who would begin to raise the future of our country. We do a very, very poor job of helping out the new parents. We are a rich society, so why are we not putting our money where our mouth is. Give help where it will do the most good. Don't criticize women and men who decide to abort while not providing any help for them if they don't. Shame on us !!!!!

And there are lots of couples who would love a child of their own to raise and nourish. We need to make adoption easier (within limits and background checks of course). Make these "unwanted" babies adoptable and give them life instead of death.

Our Legislatures need to quit giving funding to their favorite pork barrels and start to fund social programs for new parents, education for the next generation, and help for those whose physical abilities limit their income-producing potential. I'm NOT advocating socialism. I AM advocating safety nets for those who have no nets. If we are going to legislate the absence of abortions, the education level of children, and the minimum income needed to live in minimum standard housing, then we need to provide some help where help is needed.

Now, let me more specific. I believe that churches and private institutions can and do help with this. Sometimes. I also believe that we don't do enough. We as a Christian nation (I still hope we are) should be providing these basics without government interfering. But, we don't. So, we need legislation that will provide that safety net without strings. No strings other than to follow the law. And churches - DO MORE !!!! Citizens - DO MORE !!!!

Those are my thoughts. I love hearing yours......

Totally agree! Foster parents are provided with paid medical care, paid childcare, and a monthly stipend for the children the care for. Why aren't the parents provided with these same benefits?! If they were, many of those children would never end up in the foster system. And prospective mothers could afford to keep and care for their own children. Shame on us, indeed.
